Friends & Faux – beginnings

As the Going Postal project draws to a close (end August),
the
Friends and Faux project is still barely in its infancy!  For this project, I am sending out postcards, stamped by the Local Post of Tangledom, and asking recipients to add their own faux postage stamp to the cad – then pass it on.  There is space on each postcard for 8 artistamps, which once full – I hope! – will return home to me, so I can document their journey.  Anyone who adds an artistamp to one of the (numbered) project postcards and sends a scan/photo to me of their contribution before mailing it onward will receive a free copy of…whatever zine emerges, once the project ends…!

So far, only 34 numbered Friends & Faux postcards are ‘out there’ in the world!  I have been logging their journeys here.  But I will be sending out a new batch soon.  Would you like to take part?  Just drop me a line with your name and postal address and a new postcard will be logged to meander in your direction.  Have you requested a postcard previously and not received it?  Please get in touch again & I will send you a new postcard.

Friends and Faux Postcard #1 (shown below) is the best-travelled so far, having reached (and been despatched from?) it’s 4th destination.  Sadly, I have lost the scan I was sent by recipient #2, but here is how it looked after its first stop:

Can’t wait to see how different it looks if/when it makes it home!

And here are a couple more postcards-in-progress, currently wending their way around the world…  As you can see, anything goes, in terms of style & embellishment.  For the sake of uniformity, I used the same TangleStamp to start each card (although I might now begin varying which I use), but the postmark design already shows 2 variations, and the next batch will show my most recent acquisition/variation.  But just a note, you do not have to have your own postcard stamp to play this game!  It’s all about the artistamps:

Going Postal, Volume 2

Volume 2 of my Going Postal mini-zine series – which catalogues 3 entries to the Going Postal Project – is now available!

This volume has a completely different feel to Volume 1, and I’m really happy about that, as it is the diversity of ideas that prompted me to begin this project in the first place.  The ATCs featured in Volume 1 are predominantly brightly coloured, whereas Volume 2 has a far more muted feel; and this is not because I am trying to theme issues (I was actually going for serendipity, but ‘random’ seems to have a habit of appearing ‘ordered’, sometimes) – this is just, by chance, the order in which I received the submissions.

Both Volumes 1 & 2 of Going Postal are now available in the
TangleCrafts Etsy store, but don’t forget you will receive a FREE issue,
if you submit an ATC for a future volume of the project!

Feeling creative?

I just found out that my friend, Misti Ko, is organising an ATC exhibition in Vancouver (Canada), running from March 1st to 21st.   If you would like to participate, all you need to do is submit 9 ATCs in a clear 9-card sleeve, with a theme along the lines of: friendship, solidarity, peace, fair play, optimism, inspiration and empowerment.  Other possible themes include ‘personal best’ or ’10’.  All ATCs submitted will be traded on the closing night of the show, and if you include return postage with your submission, you will receive 9 assorted cards in return.  What a cool way to expand your ATC collection!

Submission deadline is February 28th,

and the address to mail your submissions to is:
Vancouver 2010 ATCs

P.S. Be sure to pass on this info to any arty/crafty friends you have, who you think might be tempted to get creative with some ATCs for this cool event!

P.P.S.  Misti is also the host of another fun (ongoing) ATC Mail Art project,
It Starts With a Pencil, so be sure to check that out, too! 🙂
